Some people might stray away from engineering because it may sound like occupation that involves machinery that may have health risk. While I was looking at a few engineering majors and i came across computer science.Computer Scientist usually work with programming computers. Therefore i looked in a few hazards one may come across in that field. Computers have many negative effects on the human body. One of the main
concerns is eyesight. Watching a computer screen throughout the day tends to
put a bit of strain on our eyes and can be detrimental to our eye health. The
more you use computers you increase the stain on your sight which can lose
focus over time causing near-nearsightedness astigmatism. Astigmatism and
near-sightedness are two of the biggest symptoms that come along with this. As
a college student having access to computer is essential for me and my peers as
well. Another medical issue is that of blood circulation. Spending a lot of
time at a computer can put us at risk of injury and poor blood circulation.
This may sound bit over exaggerated but
I think most of us all had a time when we were researching something or just watching
a movie and gotten up and felt a stiffness at a joint, that aching comes from
the lack of mobility leaving us more prone to injury.
This is really interesting! The fact that the computer screen can not only be damaging to overall eye health, but the poor circulation of blood. It would be nice if you expanded on that however. Where in the body does this poor blood circulation due to the computer affect? What about a computer screen strains the eyes? Is it the brightness? And how do you define "strain?" The nearsightedness sounds like it makes sense, but is someone who is already nearsighted more or less likely to be affected by this than those with perfect eyesight? So many questions! It is a big topic because as you mentioned, being in college is essentially being in front of a screen most of the day, and thats not even counting the times we choose to be in front of it. Very cool post!
