Sam Bryant: Obtaining Engineering XP

By Sam Bryant
When I first became an engineering student I felt the pressure of when will I actually start earning experience? During a course I took as a freshmen the instructor told the class some companies will not hire a person without any prior working experience within the field, but when they see the internships you have acquired over your years as a student, they will be sure to keep your resume at the top. As an engineering student it is important to begin networking as soon as possible. Try not to be discouraged as a freshman to go to career fairs, and get your resume out it is the best way to get your feet wet in the professional world. Companies such as Ford and General Motors won’t hire anyone under junior level, but there are other companies out there looking for freshman engineers. Obtaining an internship after your freshman year can be a great opportunity and one may gain much experience in their field of engineering..
