Choosing a major is a huge step in life. Your major doesn’t just
decide what your job will be, but what skills you’ll have for the future. Say
you’re a kindergarten teacher, while going to school you’ll learn the
principals of being patient and nurturing. Compare this to an engineer.
Engineers learn to be logical and detailed. What skills do you want to take
away from school? You have about four years of college. That time goes by fast
and thinking about a specific job rather than what skills are going to be taken
away from your schooling, makes school less enjoyable. I learned this idea
quick.
In high school, knowing college was around the corner, I knew
I had to decide on a major soon and while going about that I wasn’t thinking
about what I wanted to learn, but what job I wanted in the future. With that, I
had my mind set on being a Veterinarian. I was going to grow up and take care
of animals for a living. It seemed great, I love animals. The real question was;
was what I was learning going to be what I enjoyed and what I wanted to do for
the rest of my life? I’m a logical person. I like solving problem, innovating
new ideas and helping people. I wanted to learn just how to do that. I needed
to test my creativity and to stretch my thinking.
And that’s how I decided on Engineering.
